Mediation: A Better Way Forward
MindCare Divorce Mediation provides couples with a respectful, sensible way to navigate separation focusing on dignity and calm communication.
Our Journey
MindCare Divorce Mediation was created from a simple belief: Divorce does not always have to become a courtroom battle.
When couples are given the right structure, guidance, and space to communicate, many conflicts can be resolved with greater dignity, understanding, and control. Mediation offers families the opportunity to make their own decisions rather than leaving deeply personal matters entirely in the hands of a court.
Our journey is about helping change the way families approach separation and divorce—from conflict to conversation, from confrontation to cooperation, and whenever possible, from litigation to resolution.
Because sometimes the better way forward begins not in court, but at the mediation table.
Clients Experiences
Our greatest concern was protecting our children from unnecessary conflict. Mediation helped us keep their needs at the center of the conversation while working through parenting schedules, finances, and other difficult decisions. We left with much more clarity and confidence about moving forward.
-Jason
We appreciated the sensitivity to our family background, values, and traditions. There was no judgment or assumption about what our family should look like. The process respected our culture while helping us create practical agreements that worked for both of us.
-Shalini Ramaswamy
What stood out most was the sense that both of us had an opportunity to be heard. The conversations were structured, balanced, and focused on finding a workable path forward. Even when we disagreed, the process helped us communicate more constructively.

My Strengths as a Mediator
I approach mediation with patience, persistence, and the belief that even the most difficult disputes can move toward resolution. I do not give up easily. When conversations become tense or emotions run high, I remain focused on the issues rather than becoming distracted by praise, criticism, or conflict around me. My role is not to react to the tension, but to help the parties work through it constructively.
One of my greatest strengths is listening. Years of training have taught me not to rush to fill every silence or immediately offer a response. Instead, I listen carefully, absorb what is being said, and allow time for the underlying concerns to become clearer. I often remind myself of the principle “P.L.U.R.-Pause. Listen. Understand. Respond.” It keeps the emphasis where it belongs: on understanding the people in the room and giving each person the space to be heard.
Silence can also be an important part of mediation. Rather than seeing a pause as something that must be filled, I use it as an opportunity for reflection. A thoughtful pause can allow emotions to settle, perspectives to shift, and new possibilities to emerge.
Mediation requires concentration, emotional steadiness, and a strong commitment to helping people move beyond positions that may have kept them stuck. Difficult disputes can be demanding, but I work to remain grounded and disciplined throughout the process. My goal is to avoid becoming absorbed in the negativity of the conflict and instead keep guiding the conversation toward clarity, practical solutions, and a workable path forward.

What Happens When One Spouse Wants to Separate and the Other Does Not?
If you have decided that you want to separate, your spouse cannot necessarily prevent you from moving forward. In New York, when one spouse does not want a divorce or the spouses disagree about important issues, the matter may become a contested divorce rather than an uncontested one.
What Happens if One Spouse Moves Out of the Family Home?
The question of who will remain in the family home is often one of the biggest concerns when couples are considering separation or divorce. The home may carry emotional, financial, and practical importance, especially when children are involved, so deciding who stays and who moves out can feel overwhelming.
Legal Separation: What You Should Know
A legal separation allows spouses to live apart while remaining legally married and addressing important issues such as finances, property, support, and parenting arrangements. It can provide structure and clarity for couples who are not ready to divorce or who prefer to remain married for personal, financial, or family reasons.
